Love Letter A Day - 2024 Day 230

I know I should feel whole all on my own, but the truth is ...

There's a wholeness with you that I can't explain - and can't explain away.

I honor all the ways I feel full and alive, all the ways I thrive in every aspect of my life alone. On my own.

But I can't lie about how the fullness and aliveness is amplified - how my ability to thrive is next level when you're beside me.

Send Me Encouragement 2024 Day 218

The beginning is always today. -- Mary Shelley

Are you familiar with the book Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery?

There’s a quote that many of us love: “Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it yet.”

If we think about that from the perspective of today…

TODAY IS FRESH.
TODAY IS THE BEGINNING.

Today, instead of re-thinking and ruminating about all the ways I failed yesterday, I will think about all the ways I can -- and will -- succeed today.

And in this moment, as I think about my positive impact with a grateful heart, I am already a success today.

I hope that you can think about your positive impact on the day, before the day even gets started.

Plant Plot Update August 4 2024

I needed to grab all the eggplants that were viable ... or at least, far enough along to be viable for sauce.

I figured, while I was out there, I'd check on the melons. We've gotten a lot of rain -- A LOT OF RAIN -- and I didn't want them to burst.

Note: I have seen watermelons split ... tho, not at this size. They're generally smaller. But I would be broken hearted to have a melon this size split and then be lost to the critters and creepy-crawlies.

We're growing a different variety than we had last year, and I still surprised at how quickly they've developed. They are so sweet and just a gosh darn pleasure to eat. In my review of the watermelon bed, we had a monster-chonk ready to harvest.

There was also a sugar baby ready to go. The sugar baby plant was a gift from a friend of mine who practices winter sowing. I didn't know if her gift was going to make it (and I didn't know what type of melon a sugar baby was when it was transplanted into the garden bed), but it's been spreading out and growing this dark melon for a bit now.

It is just the most beautiful thing ... and that yellow spot is what convinced me it was ready to pull inside. They say a bright yellow spot is a sign of sweetness. I'll let you know when I cut into it.

Send Me Encouragement 2024 Day 217

If you don’t start, you’ll never finish. -- Frank Sonnenberg

It's easy to keep focus on the goal - the end/culmination point - and forget to think about the first step that's right in front of you. The step that's going to take you there ... at least, get you started.

Or maybe, not forget it.
But ... forget to focus on it.

It could be fear...

All the unknowns. All the "how's THAT going to happen?"

Fear can blur things, make them feel unfocused. If "fear" is too strong a word, we can choose nerves or anxiety, I suppose.

Whatever the word choice, it's the same result ... hesitation, a too-long-pause on taking that first step. I don't know about you, but a whole encyclopedia of downward spiral can be whispered in my head when I sit in a too-long-pause, especially when I know (because I have the experience) that a baby step forward will offer so much momentum.

I think that's why I like the concepts of 1% better and the 1 minute commitment.

It seems silly that such a tiny baby step would take you anywhere, but it does.

As you think about starting this upcoming week, take the tiny baby step.

I'm cheering for you!

Plant Plot Update August 3 2024

I was thinking about the fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

Side Note: I totally forgot there would also be coleslaw.

So as I was thinking about the heavy-luscious fried and buttered goodness ahead, I was also thinking about what I might be able to contribute on the fresh side that might help provide balance to the meal.

I had cucumbers on the counter (for an embarrassing amount of time) that were calling my name.

And it dawned on me that the dill was finally robust enough to start harvesting ... our recent rains made sure that it was full and healthy.

Cucumber salad for the win! It checked the boxes of fresh and tangy to help balance the fattiness of the mains. It also ensured that all of the cucumbers would FINALLY be used.

I sliced the cukes with a mandolin. Salted and pressed them. Tossed them in a bowl. Added some thinly sliced onions as well. And fresh ground black pepper, greek yogurt, a few drops of CPTG lemon essential oil, a bit of fresh thyme (from the garden too) -- and lots and lots of dill.

IT WAS DEFINITELY A WIN!

Not pictured, but I also brought some garden fresh cantaloupe to the family meal.

I love the way the garden contributes to a full table.

Send Me Encouragement 2024 Day 216

Begin now, the best time is now. -- Chidiebere Orji Agbugba

Planned and prepped this month's SME posts. You will see images within this series on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. If you aren't already following me on these platforms -- and feel like having a bit more encouragement in your feed -- give me a follow.

This month, I decided to focus on the spirit of beginning.

Clearly, it is not the start of a new year ... nor, is it a halfway mark. And while there are many gearing up for a new school year this month (not us, hooray), that isn't really what I had in mind.

But the vibe in the air does feel very much like new beginnings.

Any maybe I'm being influenced a bit by tomorrow's New Moon (always a good time to focus on welcoming in the new-new and manifesting your next version of self) ...

... or maybe it was GaryVee's TikTok about August ...

But that's where I am at.

Ready for this ending to finally end; and ready to take steps forward into the next season.

If that's what you feel too, I hope you'll get some encouragement out of this month's posts.
